Job Searching When Jobs are Far and Few Between

These are certainly troubling economic times of the likes we have not seen in many a
decade.  More and more organizations are scaling back and laying off employees due
to lack of business or funding.  The news is disheartening to many and continues to
grow more grim by the passing weeks.

For the thousands of job hunters, the question looms large.
How does one sustain a
successful job search  in a time when jobs are few and the competition plentiful.
Take heart  and know that there are a number of successful and practical strategies to
keep you going mentally, emotionally and spiritually! Here are two just to get the ball
rolling:

  • Join a job club.  One of the more reputable job clubs is the Five O'Clock Club.
For a modest fee, the Five O'Clock club offers job seekers well-researched
practical strategies for obtaining work in a supportive group format led by
highly  trained coaches.  For more information go to:
Five O Clock Club.

  • Set up informational interviews.  It's not enough to engage in a passive job
search consisting of answering ads in the paper or from the Internet by
sending out the standard resume and cover letter and then waiting for the
proverbial phone to ring!!!  Job searchers today have to be more proactive and
learn how to target settings and organizations that seem like a potential match
for their skills and strengths.  The key is initiating contact with someone within
the organization and setting up a meeting to learn more about the company's
needs, values, goals, culture etc.  As you learn more about the organization and
their needs, you will begin to articulate how you can help fill or address some of
these needs.  The Secret??? Jobs are created when someone presents
themselves as a person who can fill a need.  Stay Tuned..more to come soon!
